The 4 Types of PCOS and African Herbs to Clear Them?

PCOS is the most common hormone-related condition in women. The condition is best described as a high level of androgen which contributes to symptoms like:

  • Weight gain;
  • Oily skin and/or acne;
  • Irregular or absent periods;
  • Hair loss or thinning hair on the head;
  • Unwanted body hair growth;
  • Difficulty falling pregnant.

PCOS is not a chronic condition if well managed, it can be reversed and overcome with the right diet, lifestyle and nutritional support.
PCOS has different types and we will be discussing that and how to manage each of them. keep reading.

There are four(4) different types of PCOS

  1)  Insulin-Resistant PCOS

This a common type of PCOS that is a result of the high level of insulin in the body. it can be referred to as pre-diabetes

The moment the cells in your muscles, fat and liver stops responding very well to insulin, it leads to an increase in the level of blood sugar and causes the pancreas to pump out even more insulin. This is known as insulin resistance.

A high level of insulin in circulation increases the production of androgen in women. Androgen will interfere with ovulation to cause all the symptoms of PCOS listed above.

Other symptoms peculiar to this type of PCOS are:

  • Fatigue,
  • brain fog,
  • frequent thirst and urination
  • weight gain around the middle

To manage insulin-resistant PCOS,

  1. Replace a high carb with a low-carb diet that is rich in healthy fats and quality proteins.
  2. Engage in regular exercises
  3. Take a supplement with nutrient like magnesium, inositol etc. to support insulin sensitivity.

  2)  Post-pill PCOS

The symptoms of PCOS may come up a few months after oral contraception. it is more of a temporary hormonal state than a medical condition. this type of PCOS will heal within a few months to a year with the right lifestyle and diet.

You are likely dealing with Post-pill PCOS If you started experiencing the symptoms of higher androgens after coming off hormonal contraceptives.

To manage Post pills PCOS

  1. Eat more cruciferous vegetable like broccoli, cauliflower, kale and Brussel sprouts to help support estrogen detoxification.
  2. Reduce stress by avoiding stressors such as caffeine, alcohol and intense exercise.
  3. Take supplement rich in zinc and vitamin B6to to nourish the ovaries and support ovulation.

  3)  Inflammatory PCOS
Chronic inflammation stemming from an overactive immune system can stimulate the ovaries to produce too many androgen hormones. This can interfere with ovulation and cause irregular menstruation.
it comes with other symptoms such as :

  • Persistent fatigue that isn’t remedied with sleep;
  • IBS-type bowel irregularities
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Skin conditions such as eczema, hives or psoriasis.

To manage Inflammatory PCOS;

  • Stay away from foods you are sensitive to. common ones are gluten and dairy.
  • Stay away from environmental toxins pesticides, plastics and conventional skincare, beauty and household cleaning products.
  • Take care of your respiratory organs with zinc, collagen, l-glutamine and probiotic-rich foods.
  • Have enough rest and sleep.

  4)  Adrenal PCOS

This type of PCOS is driven by the body’s response to stress. it is either the sufferer is experiencing high levels of stress or their body is responding to stress abnormally. whatever the case may be, they will have a high level of DHEAS (an androgen produced in the adrenal glands) while other androgen produced in the ovaries will be at a normal level

How to manage adrenal PCOS

  1. Have enough sleep, aim for at least 8 hours sleep every night. it will help to reset stress hormone.
  2. Engage in meditation to reduce stress level and increasing self-awareness.
